The Union of Journalists for African Free Press (UJPLA) has issued a call for all parties involved in the conflicts in Niger to ensure the safety of journalists covering the insurrection. The call comes amid concerns that some journalists are under surveillance and close monitoring by military authorities, raising fears of potential threats and coercion against them.

UJPLA President, Mr. YAO Noël, strongly condemned any action that hinders or endangers the work of reporters in Niger and expressed full support for the media community in the region. He commended civil institutions for establishing mechanisms to document possible violations of reporters’ rights and urged all journalists in Niger to continue their work responsibly and professionally, emphasizing the importance of exercising their profession in safety.
