Ghana’s economy has sunk, and it would have been selfish for me to have withdrawn from the 2024 elections in order to fix the broken system – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has said that he decided to contest in elections after handing over power to President Akufo-Addo in 2016 because of the level of damage done to the economy by President Akufo-Addo.

He states that he would have been selfish not to have contested to enable him to use all his experience to correct wrongs in the economy

“I was looking forward to retiring after I handed over to Akufo Addo and become a statesman. But I will be a selfish person if I see the extent to which they have destroyed this country when I have the experience, the knowledge, and the integrity to turn things around.

“And then I will sit at home and say I will not offer myself to use that experience to turn things around for my children, Sharaf, Shahid or Farida and the youth of this country. We are going to work together with you to turn things around,” he said while speaking at a mini rally in Kissiman of the Okaikoi North constituency as part of his greater Accra campaign on Sunday, September 15.

He urged Ghanaians to vote for him and the NDC in the 2024 elections.

“Recently, I heard the flagbearer of the NPP, the vice president, saying that he has performed excellently as vice president so they should promote him to president. And I said, I don’t know who marked his script and whether he marked it himself, but I can tell him that when it comes to his performance, the mark that the people of Ghana will give him for management of the economy is F, fail.

“The mark that the people of Ghana will give him for management of the economy is F. F means fail. Because when it comes to the economy, they failed completely, absolutely. And they cannot escape blame for where they have landed us.”
