Accra, July 20, GNA- An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a 51-year-old taxi driver into Police custody for allegedly causing unlawful harm to a security guard over plantain.
Odoi Okpoti was remanded in accordance with the Act 101-day-rule to ensure that the victim’s life is not in danger before the Court takes its decision.
Police Chief Inspector Moses Mensah giving the facts said Justina Lomo, the complainant, was a beautician, while the victim Walter Adjetey Lomo, a Security Guard.
They are all residents of Apaapa, La.
The prosecution said the victim had a plantain garden in his compound and normally sold plantains to people sometimes, before harvest.
It said the accused person saw a bunch of plantain in the victim’s compound and expressed interest in buying it though it was not ready for harvest.
It said they bargained and agreed on GHc40.00, the Court heard.
The prosecution said the accused paid GH35.00 and promised to pay the balance later when the plantain was due for harvest.
It said on July 6, 2023, the complainant went to the Police Station and reported a case of causing harm and during investigations, it was discovered that, the victim sold a bunch of plantain to the accused person at GHC40.00 which was yet to be harvested and a few days later, sold same to a different person at same price.
The accused person, the Court heard, confronted the victim for his plantain and he was given his money instead of the plantain.
That, the prosecution said, infuriated the driver and led to a fight between them.
It said after they were separated, the two met by the roadside at Apaapa and started exchanging abusive words, which resulted into another fight during, which the accused used a sharp broken glass to hit the head of the victim.
The victim was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment and later referred to the Ridge Hospital and currently on admission.
