Anloga-based Hogbe Radio to hold cycling competition on Easter Friday

Hogbe Radio, a local media station at Anloga in the Volta region has planned to organize a cycling competition to mark this year’s Easter festivity in the area.

The event would also serve as part and one of the media house’s corporate responsibilities to bring the public together and foster peace among youth.

Mr Jeremy Tito, Head of Sports at Hogbe Radio (106.5 FM), in an interview with Ghana News Agency, said that another objective of the event was to promote the progress of cycling sports among youth in the district.

“The name of the competition is ‘Nuworza race’, which literary means it is not too late for you to achieve your goals. And we want to use the platform to encourage youth to chase their dreams in all areas of sports,” he said.

Mr Tito said that the event was in collaboration with Mr Kafui Agbleze, the Volta Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication officer and in partnership with Torgbui Akamu V of Anlo-Afiadenyigba.

He said all cyclists were expected to cover a distance of 61 kilometres starting from Ativuta to Anloga within the area and cautioned that every athlete was mandated to wear safety gear and helmet.

“All participants must follow race rules and follow routes and stay in their respective lanes and respective fellow riders to avoid any unforeseen disaster or accident because the event organisers will not be responsible for any unnecessary injuries, therefore everyone should ride responsibly.”

He said registration for participation in the event was made free to all participants across the country and every rider would receive a certificate of participation while the first three cyclists would take home trophy, cash prize and other special awards.

He said other categories of the cycling event would include pro riders, amateur riders and kids and family fun ride and all arrangements to ensure successful organisation have been put in place.

Mr Tito explained that other security agencies, which include the Police, Ghana Fire Service as well as the Ghana ambulance service would also be present to ensure a successful cycling competition.

He appealed to cyclists to register for the event as early as possible and abide by the rule and regulations of the race and urged the public to get involve and support the organisers for a smooth event.

Some youth cyclists GNA engaged, expressed anxiety and readiness for the upcoming cycling event which promised to be a memorable one that would bring unity, togetherness, and cohesion among the public.
