Accra, August 11 (GNA) – John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a contender in the NPP flagbearership race, has reiterated his candidacy with claims of possessing superior experience, vision, and contributions to the party since 1992 compared to the other nine contenders.
During a cluster delegates gathering with delegates from the Ahafo Ano South, South West, and South East constituencies, Kyerematen asserted that he stands out as the most experienced among all the candidates to lead the party.
The former Trade and Industry Minister highlighted his inclusion on Time magazine’s list of 100 global leaders in 1994, alongside figures like late American President JF Kennedy and billionaire Bill Gates. He emphasized his vision to generate more job opportunities and enhance the lives of Ghanaians if elected.
Kyerematen pointed to his accomplishments, such as the 1D1F policy which is facilitating the construction of approximately 300 factories at varying stages of completion. He also referenced the Presidential Special Initiatives program (PSI), which oversaw comprehensive agricultural and industrial projects during the tenures of Presidents Akufo-Addo and Kufuor.
He noted his role as a unifier, recalling how he stepped down to prevent a potentially divisive runoff during the party’s 2007 primaries when the initial poll did not yield a clear winner.
Kyerematen expressed confidence that securing votes was pivotal to “breaking the 8,” indicating his ability to garner two million votes from the Ashanti region if elected during the Presidential Primaries in November. He asserted that, apart from former Presidents Kufuor and Akufo-Addo, he possessed the charisma to draw substantial support and ensure the NPP’s success in the 2024 elections.
He urged the delegates to rely on his experience, vision, and contributions, encouraging them to entrust him with the responsibility of leading the party to victory in 2024.
Saddique Boniface, Coordinator of the ‘Alan for President’ campaign and a former Minister for Zongos and Inner-City Development, also addressed the gathering. He referred to Alan Kyerematen as the third NPP president of the 4th Republic and believed that Muslims from the Northern regions and the Zongo constituencies would overwhelmingly support Kyerematen’s candidacy.
Boniface highlighted the passion of delegates in the North regions for Kyerematen as an indication of his qualities, such as patience and unifying abilities, which he believed were essential for the NPP to secure victory in the 2024 elections.
